While I have always been adamant that all kids (not just mine) receive an incredible education, it is not easy to portray just what I believe we need in education because of the deep complexities of the subject. When I share my beliefs with an audience that does not know me personally, my words are sometimes misunderstood. (For example, I stand on the principle of providing quality customer service. To some, that means that the customer is always right. To me, it means that we consider the needs and wants of the customers - students, families, and community members - and meet those needs and wants as often as we can. It also means that we create an environment for the employees - staff members - that will make them the best they can be so they can provide an excellent education to the students in this district).
Occasionally, someone wants me to make a promise about the budget, future levies, and continued programming. I can share my desired plan on these items, but I will not make a promise because we cannot see into the future, and current factors may change. I will always stand on my beliefs about education (read those here), and I will always work hard to do the very best job I can do – for every student, staff member, and community member - all the time. I will always listen to and support you until your concerns are resolved, and I will always strive toward greater fiscal responsibility and accountability to our community so that we can all work together toward a great future for the children of District 834. I expect you to hold me to those things and continue questioning me on others.
